Like the back rest of a well designed chair, handles are the most important element of a successful mug. Over the past 35 years of making pottery, I have experimented and tweaked my way into a half dozen handle designs that I am happy with both visually and functionally. In this video, we’ll discuss in detail how, and why, I make these handles. Regardless of how you approach making handles, visual and functional decisions need to be considered. Sometimes one is sacrificed for the other, but the most successful handles are those that achieve a comfortable, visually interesting, balance between the two. If you have questions after viewing… feel free to email or DM with Q’s.
